Wii Music

I know the way to the Wii promise land and trust me wii music has to be up there with its sports counter part. Wii music is the Wii's attempt to capitalize on the music game trend which has captivated us through the games rockband and guitar hero. However instead of focusing a players ability to respond to rapidly approaching nodes it focuses on the players creative ability. The amount of instruments given to the player is amazing and its enough to sate anyone's creative ability, but like any Wii game the only way you can play this without looking like a complete loser is by having friends. Yes Friends you know those people you talk too occasionally and expect to hang out with at times. The lack of wifi really takes away from the game, but the lack of mics in wifi kills wii in general. In the end if you know you don't have a group of loyal followers, I mean friends to play this with then you really shouldn't buy the game unless you want to feel depressed and alone after every jam sessions.

Mario Strikers (The First one)

Mario Strikers is a good example of a game with a simple concept applied perfectly. The mechanics in mario's try at soccer are so good that I found myself becoming more and more creative as I played. Usually when you have systems which give you multiple decisions its overly complicated and slow long term decisions. But in mario strikers the decisions are simple and quick. Should you pass in the air or the ground? Should you juke or walk a little back. Should slide kick or tackle? These decisions are constant and quick pace and make the game have a unique charm. Part two dismantles this system and is why part 2 sucks. Should you buy this game? Absolutely. The mechanics and fun in this game are so great that there is no excuse to miss out. Pay 10 dollars and enjoy.

Soul Calibur 3

Back before Soul calibur started sucking Star war's dick there was a great game called Soul Calibur 3. Of course Soul calibur three probably started the dick sucking trend by putting a system exclusive with each game. But forget all that, Soul calibur is the same fighting game we all love. Ah the vertical slice, the horizontal slice, the cheap grappling technique which throws someone off the edge. All the staples known in soul calibur 1 or 2 are still in 3. And with the addition of weapons wrecking your little brother has never been more fun. But the question is still raised is soul calibur 3 exactly the same as soul calibur 4. And truthfully yes it is. So why should anyone buy the game after having soul calibur 4. One word. Link....Link

Wii Does Not Suck

I hate it when people bash the Wii unnecessarily. The Wii is constantly labeled as a party system and even I won’t go that far. Wii was made as a true family system and as such if you buy it without having another person to play with your going to either find yourself disappointed or a 40 year old Zelda fan. So please those of you who dislike the Wii and everything it stands for go away with your constant trolling. You are the reason we are bombarded with the same generic third person and first person shooter crap. From there they give us the same Japanese rpgs and when that fails lets throw out a nice hack and slash with tons of blood and tits so that we can sate the generic teenage boy’s fantasy. Here is a message to video game companies. We refuse to be grouped under such idiotic conformities. You are going to need to innovate in some way or you will progressively see your industry slowly become undermine by the underground video gaming scene which has become more attractive then most next gen systems.

KOTOR 2

Now I have noticed that many people don’t understand the point of my blog so let me make it clear before I review my next game. With all these next gen systems out you will probably want to get the games you missed with the older systems. This blog RETROSPECT is meant to review these older games. So when you see me review older games please don’t be surprised. Hope you enjoy my next review.

I loved KOTOR. There is nothing that compares to the RPG. People who don’t like KOTOR are people who try to suck the fun out of gaming. The fact that you could finally train up your own Jedi in a brand new star wars world was incredible. So after I beat KOTOR 50 times I asked myself why part two is hardly mentioned. After playing part 2 I finally understand why people refuse to embrace it like the first one. The story wasn’t clear cut. In fact the story was so mindboggling confusing when you reach the middle that you end up giving up any attempts at comprehension and just looking forward to finishing the game. The fighting system in KOTOR2 is much improved and that in its self should be enough pull to bring anyone who loved the series initially to try out the second. For the first time I could make a pure force Jedi who didn’t die every five seconds. This adds so much more depth to the fighting system as you go along, but the major flaw of story ruins the game.

Is the story terrible? Nope. But it is intellectual. It is a story where it’s not the plot which is important, but the message contained in it. In the plot of KOTOR2 they bring up a new concept of the force dying. This concept had never been exemplified before in a game and in such is amazing in its own right. What they also do in the game is give you little tidbits on what happened after the ending of the old one which is more like cheap appetizers rather than a fair continuation. In the end your pissed because you have no idea what happened in your own story and you didn’t even find out what Revan was doing (and don’t give me the bullshit about how they tell you he left to uncharted space I want the details!). So should you buy it? If you ask me yes. But remember you’re talking to star wars fan #560607 who dressed as Obi- Wan for Halloween almost every year. What other answer do you think he would give you?

Halo 3

If you wanted to ask me what is my example of a truly perfect game I will say outright it is Halo 3. Now I know many of you are probably gaping mouth wide open at this comment. Others are full of fury as they turn to the reviewing Gods who said Halo 3 is great, but not epic. They are wrong. Halo 3 is the epitome of epic. I thought of all possible ways a game can appease the player and Halo works extremely well in almost all categories.

Let me start with story in which Halo 3 excels in. Sure legendary isn’t as hard as the one in the pas games, but in truth just the fact that this was the end of the story made it bound to greatness. The fact that you wanted to see the end of the story of Master Chief fueled you on as you trekked through Cortana’s annoying voice.

Second way a game can satisfy is through multiplayer. Multiplayer system in halo works fine. I have never played in any game where playing in a quarter of a screen is as natural as the one on halo. All the physics and the levels culminate to a situation where a good game and good game play will make the game look beyond great. It would make the game look perfect.

Now game play is an important part and this is where halo screws up. You see before halo 3 we were romanticized with the fighting system from halo 2. My trusty BR never left my side as I fought my way through in halo 2. Now in halo 3 I find myself being confused on whether I should pick up an assault rifle or just a sniper. Also what happened to my dear needler! Now the weapon has become so cheap I consider it the new noob combo of halo 3.

Lastly what makes a game extremely fun are the intangibles. Which halo 3 has a crucial one. It is called forge. Forge has taken Halo 3 and turned it into the diamond it is today. I have played maps in which I had so much fun I considered this fun to outmatch the fun I would’ve normally had playing the regular created matches. This is because halo gives so much freedom game wise and stage wise that the concept of an ever changing world is completely true for halo. It is ever changing and as you go on you will see game fads and trends go and pass by. Even the theater is a marvel as it will allow you to watch your victories over and over again.

Halo has so many things write you can’t even say anything against that one small issue I made about it. If you disagree with this truthfully I don’t care. This is because I play halo 3 all the time and know first hand how epic the game is. Maybe you should wonder more on why you’re not having fun instead of commenting on how terrible my review is. Halo is a masterpiece and anyone who says otherwise deserves to be shunned. Halo 3= perfection.

Gears of War 2

My first experience of gears of war 2 is not a very good one. I remembered being immediately dissatisfied when I found out my character was extremely slow with the agility of a snail. It took me five minutes to become accustomed with all the many tools of destruction gears have to offer. From then on my brother and I played six hours straight to beat the campaign. Trust me when I say Gears is good. It’s not great and no where near halo status (shut up fan boys), but Gears is good. But Raymond is it superb like all the reviewers said it was! It is pretty damn close, but the complication with the story dissuaded me from giving it the excellent mark. The online multiplayer is fun, but doesn’t have the charm other multiplayers have. But what makes gears a must buy? It is a new concept added to third person shooting. The duck and cover movement incorporated in gears makes the whole game a new experience. But just like any new experience once you’ve went through it the experience loses its flair. I suggest anyone who’s debating to buy it just buy it already. It isn’t going to be terrible and you will have fun and isn’t that what it’s all about? Gears lets no one down and is like that good friend you always had. He’s always good, but he will never be your best friend.

Fallout 3

It seems the team Bethesda is back again to try to make up for the piece of garbage they called Oblivion (ok it wasn’t that bad). They try to make up for this by coming out with the game fallout 3 for the Xbox 360. This is a game which takes place in a post nuclear apocalypse in America (Washington d.c). Now before I tell you why this game disappointed me, let me make my position clear. As far as RPGs go this game is probably by far the best on the 360 right now. It earns this title with the masterful beginning where you come out the womb and from there on live out your childhood to decide your type of character and to learn how to play the game. This unique combination makes the annoyance of learning a new system completely bearable. The most fun I had in the game since was in this beginning chapter. Then fallout finally lets you explore its giant world and I must say it is pretty lengthy. Not lengthy in the terms of Morrowind, but for a post apocalyptic future it’s not too shabby. There are so many great things about this game, but a distinct few popped out at me. First, the V.A.T.S. system allows you to target a specific body part on a person and have your character try to shoot them with a certain percentage. The characters in the game are so extensive and deep that you can miss several story lines by only playing the once. And finally the emersion. Yes, Fallout makes you feel as if you are in post apocalyptic America. How does this feel? Epic. Trust me you haven’t lived until you go around rounding up people as slaves and then subsequently freeing them right after, forcing them to run into their own deaths. This game is great, but don’t listen to what others say it’s not perfect. The difficulty curve is so unfair. You will constantly find yourself running into enemies that you shouldn’t even be seeing at your level. It can also be glitch filled when at times a certain action could cause you to ruin a story line forever. But these blemishes are nothing compared to the greatness achieved by this game. Trust me this game is good. It’s that simple. Buy it, there is no excuse not too (unless you hate RPGs). Those who hate this game hate life. End of story.

Fable 2

Oh Peter, you’ve done it again. You went and said your game Fable 2 was going to be great, but truthfully it wasn’t. It wasn’t even close. Fable has greatness, but just like a nice building with graffiti all over it you can’t call it truly great because it’s been vandalized (unless of course the graffiti was nice). Yes Fable has so many annoying blemishes that I’m just going to say them now to explain to you all the things that will piss you off in fable.

First, thank you for giving us a golden trail to tell us where to go (otherwise it’d be ridiculously hard to find stuff), however the fact that the golden trail will constantly glitch leading you in the wrong direction is frustrating. Also what happened to the armor system? I want to see my hero full armored basically indestructible to any monster he sees. But no instead I have the choice of looking scary or sexy that’s all (which doesn’t really make any difference both can force people to do your bidding). On the topic of good and evil my little brother decided to make a good character and from what he is doing I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no point in being good. When you are good you’re everyone’s bitch. When you are evil everyone likes you (when I say like I mean intimidated into liking) and you get to betray their trust time and time again. Sometimes I wonder how they keep following me into the temple of shadows as I put my cult mask on and start laughing. This leads me to another giant flaw. Choice is the hallmark of fable, but your choices are always limited to a few. Sometimes I wonder how killing a little tree sapling causes a whole town to be corrupted. And yea I’m sure that not allowing that guard catch a few criminals caused the whole town to never take a step into the light. Essentially it would’ve been much more reasonable if they set requirements to meet to make towns good or bad. But that’s just me being a bit picky. Before I sum up this review with the classic its still a good game and if you loved fable you should buy it let me just say that there are no choices in the fighting game play. Magic spells are limited to a handful and fighting and range are really useless when you could just buy the best weapons. But none of this matters because if you want to level up quick all you need to do is get another player to come in make him sell all his spells take the xp and max your character out instantly. There; game over, you win; now go have some unprotected sex with your wife while you wish they had turned fable into the gem every game reviewer is making it out to be.
